Summary:

The Director of Business Applications has direct responsibility to manage the Business Applications group and to maintain and support all internal business applications and systems.  Translates business needs into report specifications to be used by development staff to create technical designs and programming specifications; oversees billing operations and monitoring.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work cross functionally across the organization to identify, document, and implement enterprise level process improvements and act as a liaison between business unit stakeholders and the IT team.
  • Maintain development processes in-line with the IT established standards and methodologies.
  • Coordinates with managers and supervisors to translate business requirements into functional requirements and technical specifications; defines activities, timelines, resources and critical paths.
  • Anticipates and resolves data integration issues across applications and analyzes data sources to highlight data quality issues.
  • Manage software vendor relationships.
  • Validates that the data warehouse solutions meet business requirements.
  • Assists with ensuring data accuracy and data integrity between source systems and enterprise data warehouse by translating requirements into test conditions and expected results for testing.
  • Assists the data engineers in mapping the data from source to target and prepares prototype models to support the development efforts.
  • Provides leadership, communication and coaching to employees; cultivates a motivated employee environment of trust, teamwork, accountability, self-confidence and business ownership.
  • Maps information management needs to key requirements and project plans.
  • Develops data warehouse and implements key reporting and analysis suites.
  • Trains and supports data warehouse users.
  • Taking projects from original concept through final implementation; interfacing with all areas affected by the project, which may include customers, client services and various departments.
  • Developing detailed work plans, schedules, project estimates, resource plans, budgets and status reports.
  • Conducting project meetings and taking responsibility for project deliverables.
  • Develop and deliver clear and concise project budgets, plans, and status reports.
  • Mentor and develop staff members.
  • Provide limited supervision to others through motivation, direction, review and feedback of assigned tasks.
  • Supervise work through the planning and scheduling of work, and the review and approval of tasks.

Competencies:

  • Excellent problem-solving (error detection, root cause analysis, error correction), conceptual, analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Excellent analysis skills, especially as it relates to business reporting and reconciliation requirements.
  • Ability to write business and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of key data warehousing processes and methodologies.
  • Experience with data warehousing elements such as star schema, snowflake schema, cube design, ODS and dimensional or aggregative designs and others.
  • Advanced MS SQL Server skills including database administration and performance tuning expertise
  • Strong experience developing and maintaining MS SQL Reporting Services, MS SQL Analysis Services and MS SQL Integration Services
  • Experience with Strategy Companion Analyzer or other enterprise BI tools such as Cognos, MicroStrategy, Proclarity, Bus.Objects, etc.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools such as excel, work, visio, powerpoint and engineering tools such as Jira, SVN, Team Foundation a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Supervises Business Operations Manager and Operations Engineering Analysts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Education - B.A. or B.S. required
  • Experience - 5+ years' experience working on a data warehouse project.
