About the company: 

As part of a global communications technology provider this position sits within a high level consulting department established to provide leading edge consultancy to network operators on their 3G networks. The business unit works across Europe in order to advise and train on all deployed network technologies and future evolutions.   

Description: 

Working with the global account teams as well as independently where appropriate the Senior Consulting Engineer will be expected to be able to engage with up to C level customer contacts and be comfortable with commercial as well as pure technical discussions.  There will be a considerable amount of travel associated with the role some of which may require extended periods away on specific projects. 

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Investigating and characterizing the performance of UMTS, HSPA and LTE networks in aspects ranging from RF parameters through end-to-end data service capabilities.
  • Supporting network design and reviewing projects for wireless voice and data communications applications.
  • Using advanced tools to accurately measure existing and potential network performance.
  • Contributing to advanced topics such as traffic modeling, capacity analysis, cell site planning, inter-RAT optimization, and micro-cell structures.
  • To keep yourself and the business unit at the forefront of mobile network evolution and development.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Solid telecommunication background and understanding of cellular systems using UMTS,
  • HSPA and LTE technology, to include signaling flow and network architecture required.
  • Previous experience at a major wireless telecom operator, professional service firm or infra
  • vendor recommended.
  • Experience is business case analysis (CapEx, Opex, NPV) for new technology deployment, network architecture and design
  • Experience with UMTS/LTE planning tools (e.g. Atoll), and analysis tools (e.g. Actix) preferred.
  • Experience with network OSS databases and tools for KPI definition and analysis for network performance, capacity and user experience monitoring/forecasting
  • Exposure to data services, knowledge of protocols such as SIP, RTP, TCP/UDP desired.
  • Proven track record with innovative problem solving and hands-on experience with UMTS network troubleshooting, fine-tuning, and optimization.
  • Experience with simulation tools (link level simulator, OptNet...) preferred.
  • Experience/knowledge of impact of applications (e-mail, video streaming, web browsing...) in the dimensioning of PS data services.
  • Experience with indoor network planning and traffic management.
  • Familiarity with carrier strategies for IRAT HO, MIMO & dual carrier, coverage enhancement solutions, network (RAN) sharing, network capacity monitoring and forecasting, Quality of
  • Service (QoS), UMTS 900 deployment, air interface security, LBS, LTE integration, voice over HSPA, CS over HSPA, VoiP.
  • A passion for learning and excellence, strong team spirit and flexible attitude.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Fluency in English and at least one additional language preferred (Spanish, French, Italian Russian, German, Turkish...).
  • Available to travel 30 to 50 % of the time, for duration ranging from one week up to three months.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required. Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or MBA or equivalent experience preferred.

Final Statement: 

A senior person within the Operator network strategy environment who has previously worked for a network vendor could be an ideal profile as could someone from another mobile technology consulting firm.  There are plenty of opportunities for progression within the business.
